As American Ken noted in a comment to 404 Media, she was interviewing for a job at a fitness center, where she was warned in advance that artificial intelligence from Apriora would be used in the interview.
«This was the first interview of my life. I guess I had to earn the right to talk to a person, lol», — the girl noted.
Apriora, founded in 2023 by John Reitel and Aaron Wang, is a Y Combinator startup that promises to help companies «hire 87% faster» and «interview 93% cheaper» because its AI can interview multiple candidates at once. According to Wang, jobseekers prefer AI-assisted interviews because it «helps reduce interview anxiety, allowing candidates to present their best selves.»
However, Ken’s experience was quite different. Her video shows the AI recruiter stutter and repeatedly repeat the words «vertical bar pilates» while the girl stares blankly into the camera.

«I thought it was really creepy, and I was scared. I didn’t think it was funny at all until I posted it on TikTok and the comments didn’t help me feel better. I was really shocked, I didn’t do anything to cause it to go wrong, so it was very unexpected,» Ken noted.
She says she will never interview with an AI again. If another company offered her a similar opportunity, Ken says she would rather turn it down.
Her TikTok video has garnered over 300,000 likes and more than 300 comments, with many users supporting the girl.
«Today I applied for a job that had an interview with an AI and immediately closed the window because if they’re not going to waste their time interviewing me, then I’m not going to waste my time trying to work there,» one TikTok user wrote.
«The company tried to send me to interview with an AI for an HR position… Why would I work in HR at a company that doesn’t even honor me with human interaction?» noted another commenter.
Previously, leading HR professionals advised candidates to treat AI as a tool to help with resume writing and warned against leaving all the work to it. They also advised to be prepared for the fact that candidates will communicate with AI during the first rounds of interviews.
It is believed that implementing AI can save recruiters time on administrative tasks such as scheduling, and instead they will be able to focus on providing a better experience for candidates moving on to the next stages.
Artificial intelligence is also used by candidates when searching for a job. In the winter, Ukrainian game developer Mark Tsemma advised using ChatGPT: «Use LLMs like ChatGPT to search for vacancies and game studios. ChatGPT pleasantly surprised me by finding me half of the vacancies and studios from the list where I submitted my resume. It finds things that you would have searched for a very long time on the Internet yourself.» After 45 days of job searching, Tsemma said that he received an offer.
