"Today I got a call from the candidate's mother." IT-workers discuss an extraordinary case of relatives involvement in the employment process
Talent Acquisition Lead Artem Nikityuk shared with the IT community an unusual case from his own practice, when the mother of one of the candidates was actively involved in the employment process.
Talent Acquisition Lead Artem Nikityuk shared with the IT community an unusual case from his own practice, when the mother of one of the candidates was actively involved in the employment process.
«Today I got a call from the candidate’s mother… No, don’t scold me for turning down her son… She asked for an interview, dropped off her resume, talked about his strengths, and even explained how he would be useful to the company,» he noted in a post on his LinkedIn page.
Artem Nikityuk said that this approach surprised him, but, despite everything, a first meeting was scheduled with this candidate.
«I hope he will be as active as his mother, otherwise the technical interview will have to be conducted for her… Candidates, if your mother can „sell“ you like this, then this is a very good move to shock the recruiter and get an interview!», — the Talent Acquisition Lead sneered.
Nikityuk also asked fellow rectors if any of them had experienced anything similar in practice, and promised to keep the community informed about how this story would end.
«Moms didn’t call me, but wives often ask me to provide a consultation for their husband,» shared Victoria Zakharova in response to a post by her HR BP colleague.
It turns out that such cases are not exceptional. At least, that’s what recruiter Natalia Hromadska says.
«Sometimes I get messages like this from my mom, dad, or grandpa. I always check to see if the candidate is even aware that he’s looking for a job?» the recruiter joked.
Other recruiters have also been involved in such cases in their professional biographies.
«From my experience as a 28-year-old, it’s most likely that the mother needs to find her son a job more. Once there was an interview for a man, 34 years old. I came to the interview with my mother. We went to think after the interview, and never came back,» said HRD Aryna Lebid.
Of course, such an incident did not go without a number of ironic and critical comments from other IT people.
«I would fire such a specialist. Because „independence“ is clearly not his soft skill. And what next? How do you imagine collaborating with an ADULT, but in reality, a mother’s child?» asks rhetorical questions Senior PHP developer Margarita Samarska.
IT Project Manager Lyubov I. considers this situation sad.
«28 years old is a grown man. If it happens that you sign a contract with him, then his mother will show up and make a fuss that his son is working for you…», she expresses her assumptions.
As dev.ua wrote, compared to neighboring countries — Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia — salaries for highly qualified specialists in the Ukrainian IT sector look quite competitive, but beginners are paid more in neighboring EU countries. This is evidenced by a study by the consulting company Korn Ferry.
The recruiter was 3 minutes late for the interview. The dissatisfied candidate said that he was not interested in further communication. Aitov residents are having a lively discussion
«I have an avalanche of fake candidates.» IT recruiters complain about the prevalence of candidates who pretend to be someone they are not. What is happening?
