Sony has patented an AI assistant that will help you get through difficult moments in PlayStation games

Sony has filed a patent for a personal «AI ghost» technology for games: in difficult moments, it should suggest solutions, demonstrate the correct button presses, and, if necessary, temporarily take control.
According to Notebookcheck, the document talks about AI-generated «ghost-players» — models trained on thousands of hours of gameplay footage from streams, social media, and YouTube. The idea is to turn static tutorials into interactive help: when a player gets «stuck» on a boss or puzzle, the assistant adapts to the player’s playing style and shows them what to do next.
The patent describes several modes. In the basic mode, the system displays combinations and timings, and the player repeats them himself. In a harder mode, partial or complete control interception is possible to pass a specific segment. Continuous retraining is also mentioned: the assistant can pull information from data centers, and for better context, it can take into account eye movement or a picture from a licensed Sony camera.
The authors of the article suggest that the idea could be an evolution of the Game Help function on the PS5 and increase accessibility for beginners or people with disabilities. At the same time, critics point out the risks: additional data collection, privacy, and the fact that the «algorithmic safety net» may reduce the feeling of reward from progressing through trial and error.
Patent applications don’t mean that a feature will necessarily appear in consoles or games. Sony regularly patents ideas for future mechanics, but some of them remain experiments.
