As Forbes Ukraine reports, Hastings' participation was reported by the presidential advisor on strategic issues, Oleksandr Kamyshin. According to him, the businessman became one of the investors in the fund, which specializes in financing the Ukrainian defense industry.
UA1 plans to close the first round of fundraising at $50 million by the end of April 2026. The fund has already been joined by American technology entrepreneurs and venture capitalists who view Ukrainian defense tech as a promising investment direction.
The fund has a clear mandate to invest in technologies that can be quickly applied on the battlefield. This primarily concerns developments in the areas of artificial intelligence, electronic warfare, unmanned systems, robotics and cybersecurity. Kamyshin also joins UA1 as an advisor and will work to attract new investors.
According to Kamyshin, in 2026, the total volume of investments in the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex may exceed $1 billion, which indicates the growing interest of international capital in this sector.
The UA1 Fund was founded by US Marine Corps veteran William McNulty. He began investing in Ukrainian defense developments in 2024 as a private investor, and later consolidated these investments into a fund. As of October 2025, UA1 had already raised about $18 million and focused on financing projects in the field of DefenceTech that can quickly move from development to practical application.
