According to press releases from Ukrainian mobile operators, the test coverage covers the central part of Borodyanka and adjacent streets. The network is operating in test mode, and the tests will initially last until December 2026. Access to 5G is open to subscribers with smartphones that support the technology, without connecting additional services. Data transfer in the 5G network is charged according to current conditions, as is traffic in 4G.
As part of the pilot, users can test the real-world benefits of 5G, including lower latency and higher connection stability. This is important for services that are sensitive to network quality: video calls, online streaming, cloud applications, games, and transferring large amounts of data. To participate, all you need is a SIM or eSIM that already works in 4G and 5G mode activated in your smartphone settings.
Borodyanka has become the second settlement after Lviv to conduct open testing of 5G. According to information from public announcements by state bodies, the pilot will allow checking the compatibility of equipment with military systems, assessing the demand for the technology, and preparing conditions for future licenses and auctions after the end of martial law. Currently, several dozen 5G base stations have already been installed in Ukraine, and more than a quarter of users' smartphones support the technology.
Testing 5G in small cities allows you to collect representative data in different building and load conditions. These results should become the basis for forming a model for further scaling the fifth generation network across the country.
