Ukrainian military begins masking Starlink terminals in fake trees

Defense Ministry advisor Serhiy Flesh said that the Ukrainian military has begun hiding Starlink terminals in logs made of foam. This method of camouflage appeared by analogy with the approach that the Russians previously began using to hide their communication antennas.
As Serhiy Flesh reported, Ukrainian soldiers hid Starlink inside one of these dummy logs. Simple and affordable materials were used for the construction: plastic mesh, foam, paint, and a base on which they formed the log body. The idea is to disguise the critically important communication element as an ordinary object in a position that is more difficult to notice during aerial reconnaissance.
The context for this decision came after reports that the Russian military had begun hiding communication antennas inside mock trees and trunks. Such structures are made of lightweight materials and then painted to match the terrain to reduce the risk of detection from drones. Now, a similar principle has been adapted by Ukrainian units, but this time to disguise Starlink, which plays a key role in data transmission, coordination, and maintaining stable communications on the front lines.
The practical value of such camouflage is obvious: satellite terminals remain an important target for the enemy, especially when it comes to positions where a constant communication channel is needed. If Starlink can be hidden in an object that does not attract attention, this increases the chances of preserving the equipment and not losing communication after enemy detection.
The published example also shows how quickly field engineering solutions are spreading on the front. What first appeared as a way to hide an antenna is now turning into a separate direction of masking equipment and communication nodes. In a war, where drones are constantly looking for even the slightest signs of presence, such improvised solutions can give quite practical results.
«The most problematic segment for them is the zero positions»: Sergey Flesh named three alternatives to Starlink that the Russians are testing on the front line
Product Designer задонатив ЗСУ особистий Starlink. Як він це зробив

Британець створив інструмент для злому Starlink з деталями на $25. Чи виведе він термінал з ладу? WIRED
