Ukrainian FP-2 drone now capable of carrying 100-kilogram aerial bomb
The Ukrainian FP-2 strike drone, which operates at a tactical range of up to 200 km, has been equipped with an adapted OFAB-100-110-TU high-explosive fragmentation bomb. This enhances the drone's striking effect and allows it to operate on objects in the Russian rear with greater efficiency.
As reported by "Military", photos of captured warheads were published by the Telegram channel "Potuzhny Informator". The pictures show that the tail block has been removed from the bomb. Unlike many Soviet models, it is removable, so this solution reduces the weight and dimensions of the suspension. OFAB belongs to the class of high-explosive fragmentation munitions and is designed to hit unprotected and weakly protected targets. The charge is an explosive mixture of TG-50 (TNT and hexogen in a ratio of 50:50) weighing approximately 44 kg. The total weight of the product is approximately 121 kg, but in the configuration for FP-2 it is lower due to the dismantled tail.
Sources note that such Czechoslovak-made bombs were used in the USSR with L-39 training bombs, which explains the Russian-language markings. As a result of the re-equipment, the FP-2 actually received a warhead of greater power than the Russian Geran-2 (approximately 90 kg), although the Russian Federation uses more complex combined charges.
FP-2 is a development of the Ukrainian company Fire Point in the "middle strike" class. The drone is similar in layout to the long-range FP-1 , but reduces the range from approximately 1,400 to 200 km in favor of an increased warhead (the company announced 105–120 kg). There are versions for strikes on static targets with autonomous guidance and modifications with radio control for hitting moving objects.
Since its public presentation in September 2025, a lot of video evidence of the use of the FP-2 has appeared online: strikes on oil depots in temporarily occupied Crimea and Luhansk, on warehouses and places of concentration of equipment, as well as on the Rubicon UAV unit.
The re-equipment of the FP-2 as an aerial bomb indicates a broader trend towards adapting existing aviation ammunition for unmanned platforms. This approach reduces the cost of the nomenclature, simplifies logistics, and allows for rapid increase in the effect of defeating targets in the enemy's near and middle rear.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the Ukrainian defense company Fire Point, known for the FP-5 "Flamingo" cruise missile and the FP-1 kamikaze drone, introduced new FP-7 and FP-9 ballistic missiles and the FP-2 strike drone.
