As noted in a press release by Ukrtelecom, the company is increasing the speed for all residential users of its GPON network simultaneously, regardless of which package they currently pay for. The operator presents this as the next step in modernizing the network and simplifying access to high-speed Internet for customers across the country.
The company emphasizes that the GPON network covers both large cities and small settlements, and the infrastructure is built according to uniform technical standards. Particular emphasis is placed on investments in energy independence of nodes, redundancy and centralized monitoring to maintain stable network operation in conditions of power outages during wartime.
For users, this means more bandwidth when multiple devices are running at the same time in the home — from laptops and smart TVs to consoles and «smart» appliances. The gigabit channel should reduce speed drops during video conferencing, 4K streaming and online gaming.
At the same time, the operator itself reminds that the actual speed will also depend on home equipment. To experience the benefits of a gigabit connection, you need a router or Wi-Fi Mesh system with support for 1 Gbps ports and modern wireless communication standards. Ukrtelecom offers such equipment for rent, and also sells it in its own online store.
In the fixed Internet market in Ukraine, gigabit connections have been available from many providers for several years, but, according to Ukrtelecom, increasing the speed for the entire GPON network without additional charges should make this standard basic for subscribers of the national operator and increase competition for service quality.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how in January-June 2025, Ukrtelecom continued to develop its optical infrastructure, focusing on replacing copper networks and connecting new subscribers in the B2C and B2B segments. The company also reported an increase in optical Internet revenues by more than 10%.
