A new stage in the study of underground gas storage facilities has begun in Ukraine. JSC Ukrtransgaz has conducted vertical seismic profiling in a well: a technology used for the first time by the company to create an accurate 3D model of a geological structure at great depth.
As reported on the official Facebook page of Ukrtransgaz, this technique allows you to obtain a «geological image» of the subsoil, namely a spatial model, which is critically important for managing gas injection and withdrawal modes. The research was conducted within the framework of developing technological capabilities for accurate monitoring of the state of storage facilities and optimizing their operation.
The project was implemented jointly with the Ukrainian service company «Horizonty» and the Institute of Gas Transportation. Geophysical measurements helped to create a spatial picture of the deep geological layers where gas is stored. This allows not only to better predict the behavior of deposits, but also to reduce technical risks when working with storage facilities.
«This approach provides a new quality in modeling gas deposits and strengthens our technological capabilities,» commented Roman Malyutin, General Director of Ukrtransgaz JSC.
The company emphasizes that this study allows strengthening the reliability of the Ukrainian gas transportation system and contributes to safer and more efficient use of its resources.
JSC Ukrtransgaz is the operator of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities and a subsidiary of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine. The company controls one of the largest underground natural gas storage systems in Europe, which plays a strategic role in ensuring the energy security of the country and the region.
