Ukrainian Catholic University has announced the launch of a new undergraduate program in robotics at the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It will begin in the new academic year.
DOU, citing the acting dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU Oles Dobosevich, writes that the educational process will consist of lectures and practical classes, on which it is planned to focus. " Students will not only study, but also participate in interuniversity events, exhibitions and international competitions," Dobosevich said.
Students will be taught courses in unmanned systems, embedded development, circuit engineering, etc. The curriculum was partly shaped by the Robotics specialization, which was launched last year for students of the Computer Science bachelor's program.
The emphasis will be on three areas:
— Programming robotic platforms — will teach you how to create algorithms for robots that perform specified actions.
— Designing robotic platforms — developing engineering solutions for specific tasks. For example, automated grass mowing along the road.
— High-performance computing — creating high-speed software solutions for robotic systems.
Students will work with various platforms. In particular, with robotic arms, mobile platforms, sensors, lidar systems, etc. The first laboratory is already open. Also in the process of equipping is a machining shop and another large room.
It is planned that the enrollment will be from 20 to 25 people. However, in five years, the number of students in one course is planned to be expanded to 40 people.
Recall that in May 2024, the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the Ukrainian Catholic University opened a new specialization in robotics, which provides a set of courses for mastering programming skills for creating robots and robotic systems. The main reasons are interest among students and a high demand for robotics specialists from companies.
The team of the Faculty of Applied Sciences of UCU worked on the creation and development of the specialization together with the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.
