«We don’t take the wounded»

PPC Specialist Ksenia Chebotar published a screenshot of correspondence on LinkedIn with a former military man who was rejected by his employer due to a concussion.

«I have no words. He is 24 years old. He gave almost 4 of them to defend Ukraine. He was wounded, but not very seriously. The contusions are also not serious — there are only migraines. He is looking for a job remotely. An online order processing manager. And what do you think? After a 10-minute conversation with a recruiter, he writes me this,» she wrote and added a screenshot.

It’s about Ksenia’s husband. «After two months of searching, he’s ready for any interview, so I agreed anyway. It will be valuable experience,» she wrote, adding that the company is probably an «office,» since the name and scope of work were not clearly stated.

«Recruiters, what do you think about this argument for rejecting a candidate? Have you ever had to say the same thing?» she asked.

In the comments, recruiters sometimes admit that they hear from employers a demand not to cooperate with former military personnel.

Lena Yukhymyuk, HR manager, notes: «Refusal is incorrect. But! Let’s be honest… Since the 14th year, there has been an unspoken rule not to hire after service. Many customers still tell me to refuse military personnel under any pretext. You can have different attitudes towards this, but it’s a fact. They are afraid that they need to pay more time and attention to him, they are afraid that he will violate discipline and the working atmosphere in general, will often get sick, etc.… They are afraid that there will be a lot of problems with the person and it is not clear what to expect, so they do not hire him.»

«It’s very familiar. When I was also asked where I worked before, and I heard in response „I served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine“, the tone and interest in the conversation immediately disappears. And there were also moments when they even asked „were you in the points? And in which direction“. Of course, I already understood that this was a pointless conversation. To be honest, it’s unpleasant when you’re looking for a job, communicating with representatives, and then questions about your previous work… and that’s it, you’re no longer their candidate. I stopped paying attention to these, excuse me, „morons“ with stereotypes about the military, but it’s still unpleasant, I can’t blame myself for choosing the path of a military man in the past,» says Front-End Developer Stanislav Borodiy.

However, most professionals are outraged by the situation and are offering the former defender a job. According to Ksenia, several interviews have already been scheduled.

Superjun without experience

In Ukraine, they are looking for a superjunior with no work experience, because the employer «has not yet become a trend and is even considered condemned in some prehistoric companies.» What should be done and how much do they pay?

«We are looking for engineers who grew up in the AI ​​era, work with it correctly, and know how to create a finished product with its help under the guidance of a super-master who will ensure the correct architecture,» says the job description on Djinni.

Among the specialist’s responsibilities is to sell products using LLM.

«Work experience is not required — it has not yet become a trend here and is even considered condemned in some prehistoric companies,» the employer notes.

The test task is not paid and can be of two types:

  1. Independent — the candidate receives access to the repository with the architecture and independently completes the task within two days.
  2. With help, the candidate gains access to a mentor and has a maximum of 2 weeks to complete the test.

«You can be able to write code at the most basic level. But debugging code and fixing errors requires a lot of attention,» the job description says.

Required experience with skills — over a year of using AI Cursor, AI Agents, AI Prompt Engineering.

The candidate must also be a native speaker of Ukrainian.

There are two such vacancies posted. And each one already has dozens of reviews.

The company description on Djinni says that it is hiring a startup to create digital twins of office workers, which received a grant from Google.

According to information on the company’s website, the employer already has three employees.

«Vacancy as a tender for a specific participant»

Consultant Ivan Bratus published a vacancy that, in his opinion, looks like a tender for a specific participant.

«The „interesting vacancies“ section. They sent me a vacancy text overnight with the question: „So I don’t understand something, or does this look like a tender for a specific participant?“ And you know what? If I were the company, I would either change the description or immediately write the list of 10 names they really want to hire,» he wrote and added a screenshot.

Ageism in action

Copywriter Marina Ulyanova notes: » This has never happened before, and here it is again. I’m 35. It’s probably time to get a pension certificate, sit on a bench by the entrance and discuss all the neighbors. Of course, this is sarcasm. But, in every joke… Entrepreneurs are looking for someone who «keeps the rhythm and structures the chaos», but for some reason they are sure that these skills have an age. And this age is 25. Or better, 23.
And then they wonder why «there are no normal people,» she wrote, adding a screenshot of the correspondence below.

«Maybe 'making friends with AI' is a technical skill that can be acquired and improved? And 'keeping the rhythm', 'structuring' and 'understanding the pace of an entrepreneur' are maturity and experience, not date of birth? A business that hires based on stereotypes, not skills, may lose. Just a thought out loud from your 35-year-old 'almost retired',» she added.

«Is everything okay with this job offer?»

Natalia Romanenko, founder of Mental Health Academy UA, published a job description with the question: «Do you think this job offer is okay?»
Maybe everything is within the framework of the market and a reasonable attitude towards employees and I’m just being too picky?»

The offer includes work for $500 from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
