YouTube now allows users to completely remove Shorts from their feed

YouTube has started rolling out a new setting that allows you to effectively turn off Shorts: after setting a zero limit, short videos disappear from the tab and the main feed of the application.
According to The Verge, the platform has updated its time management tool and added a new lower limit for Shorts — 0 minutes. Previously, the minimum limit was 15 minutes, and now users can completely remove short videos from the mobile app on Android and iOS.
The new limit works simply: once the set limit is reached, the Shorts tab stops showing videos and instead displays a message that the limit has been reached. In tests by The Verge, it turned out that the zero timer affects not only the individual tab, but also the main screen, where short videos also stop appearing.
YouTube explains that the feature is gradually being rolled out to all users, not just children or teens. This is a continuation of previous changes to the time control system: the service first launched a timer for Shorts last fall, and later expanded it to include parental controls. Now, the same mechanism has become a tool for adults who want to spend less time endlessly watching short video content.
You can enable the option in the settings in the time management section. Users have several options available, from completely blocking Shorts to a two-hour limit. In fact, for the first time, YouTube has made it possible not only to reduce the viewing of short videos, but to almost completely remove them from everyday use of the service.
YouTube began rolling out Shorts limits in 2024 as part of its time management tools. Initially, the minimum limit was 15 minutes, and it was used primarily for parental controls. In January, the company announced an expansion of the feature, including the ability to set a zero limit.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how YouTube announced the integration of Shorts with the mobile version of Adobe Premiere: the «Edit in Adobe Premiere» button will appear in the short video feed, which will open full-fledged editing tools, generative sound effects, and Firefly AI functions.
