This primarily concerns popular instructions for installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware and bypassing the mandatory Microsoft account requirement. The author of the CyberCPU Tech channel, Rich White, reported two deleted videos without strikes, but with warnings; the owner of the Britec09 channel received a strike and suspended advertising integration due to risks to revenue. The creators emphasize that such guides have been manually checked dozens of times and returned without sanctions.
YouTube reminded of the strict rule of «three strikes in 90 days and the channel will be deleted,» but in some cases the system for some reason did not calculate the penalty, which only increased the confusion. Some authors claim that the «video ideas» tool simultaneously recommended topics for which moderation had just removed the video. This is another sign of a lack of synchronization between the platform’s products and the practice of applying the rules.
The financial consequences for tech channels are tangible: their bread and butter videos generate steady views, new subscribers, and sponsorship deals, so the wave of removals forces creators to self-censor, reducing reach. On Reddit, users overwhelmingly advised saving their favorite instructions locally in case of repeated moderation failures.
According to YouTube policy, instructions that demonstrate manipulation of system settings or security may be restricted if they cause direct harm. At the same time, educational materials with a clear context and legal use (own license, warning about risks, no incitement to hack) are usually allowed. Controversial cases indicate the main problem of the platform in recent years, namely the opacity and inconsistency of the application of rules at the junction of automated filters and manual review. That is why the community demands from YouTube not only to restore the video, but also to provide clear instructions: what can be shown in technical guides, how to properly draw up disclaimers and what moderation signals are today «red flags» for educational content.
