YouTube Music adds cross-device playback syncing

YouTube Music users can now resume listening from where they left off, even if they change devices, with the new feature coming to the app in a recent update.

As TechRadar reports, in the new version of the YouTube Music app (8.26.51), the company has introduced a feature to synchronize playback progress between devices. Thanks to this, the user can start listening on one device (for example, on a phone), and seamlessly continue it from the same moment on another: a computer, tablet or other gadget.

In addition, a new visual element has appeared in the interface, namely progress bars in the «Speed dial» section, which show how much certain tracks, albums or playlists have been listened to. By clicking on them, the user will see a «Resume» button, which allows you to quickly return to listening.

The new feature will be useful for those who often switch between devices throughout the day, for example, listening at home on a laptop and then want to continue on headphones during a walk. Spotify has had a similar feature for a long time, but for YouTube Music this is one of the steps towards expanding multi-platform.

YouTube Music remains one of Google’s key streaming products. In recent years, the company has been actively developing the service’s functionality — among the innovations: smart recommendations, personalized playlists, integration with YouTube and a gradual improvement in the user experience. New playback control capabilities are designed to make the service more competitive against the streaming leaders.

We previously reported that YouTube is planning to introduce a new, cheaper version of its Premium subscription that will remove ads from videos and podcasts, but not YouTube Music. The company will thus split its YouTube Premium subscription into two versions.
