Ukrainian First Parsec is launching the production of a batch of SHOOM-20 pulse jet engines under a contract that should ensure flight and technical tests of the new drone and verification of the declared operating modes of the power plant.
According to Military, the company confirmed receipt of the order in its Telegram, and the manufactured engines will be used as a test series for flight tests of UAVs. Based on the capabilities of SHOOM-20, the expected speed of the platform can reach 400 km/h.
The power plant provides a thrust of 20 kg and at the current stage provides up to 17 minutes of continuous operation. The developers state the goal of increasing the stable operation time to two hours, which, according to their calculations, can give the drone a range of approximately 800 km. In parallel, the team is working on bringing the parameters to a mode suitable for repeated serial launches within the test program.
The cost of one SHOOM-20 is currently estimated at $750, and for large orders, the manufacturer is ready to reduce the price to $500 per unit. This makes the issue of resource and stability key, because they will determine the feasibility of scaling up production for high-speed drones.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how First Parsec has already shown the results of SHOOM-20 tests on test platforms. The new contract shifts the emphasis from demonstrating operability to preparing the batch for full-fledged flight tests, which usually confirm real-world speed and time regimes under identical launch conditions.
