GMS, an international IT company with Ukrainian roots, has announced a partnership with Shabodi, a telecom company developing the NetAware platform for launching network APIs. In 2026, Ukraine could become one of the first markets to test these services with mobile operators and businesses.
According to a GMS press release, Network APIs are standardized requests to the mobile network that return «risk signals» to businesses to identify a customer. This does not involve access to traffic or personal data, but rather checks such as detecting SIM swaps, verifying phone numbers, and determining SIM or device status. These responses can be embedded into account logins, payment confirmations, or credit issuance to mitigate scenarios where fraudsters hijack a number through a SIM swap and then attempt to take over a banking or merchant account.
Network APIs are standardized programming interfaces through which a mobile operator can securely «give» a business or application individual signals from its network without revealing unnecessary personal data.
For operators, the model means a new B2B product. They can sell enterprises access to these checks as a service and receive additional revenue beyond tariffs and traditional telecom services. GMS says it will help prepare the network, enable the necessary APIs and launch a commercial model. For businesses, the company promises a «single window» approach so that there is one integration, and then you can work with multiple operators without separate connections to each. GMS also emphasizes the platform’s compatibility with 4G and 5G and that the launch should not require a complete modernization of the infrastructure.
GMS refers to the GSMA Open Gateway and CAMARA. These are international initiatives that unify network APIs between operators so that the same checks work according to common rules across markets, and implementation for banks, fintech and e-commerce is faster and cheaper.
