Slack has a new Slackbot that can use simple queries to make plans, set daily priorities, find the right files, and analyze reports. The feature is already in beta for some users and is preparing for a wider launch by the end of the year.
As Engadget reports, the updated bot communicates quite simply and naturally. It is enough to describe the task: to make a project plan, to remind about something important for today, to find a document whose name you do not remember. The bot is able to suggest next steps, summarize the correspondence and extract key points from it.
Slack integrates with popular work services, including Google Drive, Salesforce, and OneDrive. This allows you to ask the bot to explain numbers from a report, collect files from different folders, or prepare a short summary of a discussion. The company promises further development: Slackbot will be able to perform individual actions on your behalf and create simple «agents» without code. For example, for weekly digests, starting checklists, or routine responses.
The settings are managed by the organization. Administrators can turn off new features or limit access to data from integrations. Individual employees will not be able to opt out on their own if the company enables the feature centrally. Slack emphasizes that data processing occurs within the corporate environment, and access rights to files and channels are determined by existing policies.
The new Slackbot is designed to remove some of the routine right in the chat, without switching between applications. Instead of searching for a presentation in different folders, the user makes a request in a dialog with the bot and receives a link and a short summary. When it is necessary to start a project, the bot offers a template, allocates tasks to responsible persons and forms a simple plan for the week.
Previously, Slackbot mainly reminded about events and marked keywords. Now it becomes a working assistant inside the platform. This is the general trend of the market: office tools add AI to familiar working windows to make drafts, summaries and searches faster. For companies, this is a chance to save team time and return the benefits of subscriptions, and for Slack — a way to keep users in its own ecosystem, where most daily actions can be performed without leaving the chat.
