According to the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the total audience of disabled accounts exceeded 1.3 million users. The agency emphasizes that the team uses available social media monitoring tools and directs platforms to promptly respond to violations of rules and legislation. It specifically emphasizes the focus on protecting young people, who are most vulnerable to aggressive gambling advertising in short videos and streams.
Within the current round of blocking, TikTok removed both explicit promotional content and «native» integrations: promotional codes, «reviews» of bonuses, calls to register in the gray sector. Such materials were often disguised as entertainment videos, but contained direct links or instructions for bypassing restrictions. The Ministry of Digital Affairs notes that the detection occurred both based on user complaints and as a result of systematic screening of thematic niches and hashtags.
PlayCity Chairman Gennady Novikov confirmed the expansion of cooperation with platforms and announced the expansion of the sanctions approach beyond TikTok: «We plan to continue to strengthen control and extend similar sanctions to other social networks and video platforms in order to effectively counteract violations in the digital space.»
This is the second wave of the purge: in October, 33 accounts with a total audience of over 365 thousand subscribers were deleted. Illegal advertising of gambling on social networks harms the market and undermines attempts to regulate the industry: gray operators avoid age verification, do not comply with responsible gaming requirements and work outside the tax field. For TikTok and other platforms, this topic is also sensitive — global rules prohibit the promotion of dangerous or fraudulent services, and violations are punished by removing content, limiting reach and banning accounts.
Previously, dev.ua wrote about how the TikTok platform restricted access to profiles with a total audience of over 365,000 subscribers, according to PlayCity. Additionally, another 20 pages with a total reach of over 625,000 users are under review.
