This could be because some candidates are using AI instead of their own faces. My LinkedIn feed has been relentlessly throwing up stories where company owners or founders are complaining about some left-wing people trying to sneak into remote work. They might not even exist and instead be sweatshops in India.

Another problem can be with candidates. I have seen this in my own experience, who connect with (which I had):

  • the toilet of the office building of the current job they want to leave (the tiles, echoes and sounds of the toilet are just wonderful);
  • the hospital reception in Egypt, because it turns out the candidate is not even in Ukraine and was injured while wake boarding;
  • on the bus.

It’s interesting, if this is not a sudden «trick» that is doomed to failure, and the company is recruiting people in this way, then this is their super screening tool. After all, only the chosen ones will pass this «sieve». And if this works as a tool for forming a team with a certain psychotype that they are counting on, then they are geniuses. If you break away from this (not very realistic, in my opinion) option, then this is a fierce grin that is strange to even read.

In my opinion, this is psychological pressure on the candidate, with the aim of selecting people who will not think about illogical demands and orders. Such people are easier to manage.

I also had an experience when a candidate came in a T-shirt and with a cigar. That’s why I’m not surprised by the request. There are different cases, just like different candidates.

Apparently, earlier, during online interviews, some kind of game happened. I had one in the summer, where a young lady went on air half-naked, a cat was climbing on her, she regularly got up after him, and interrupted the conversation. And there was one where the candidate was sitting somewhere in the country, or in the village, we brought him to the level of a partner, and he was in a dirty T-shirt, and in the background — chickens and a cow walking. In short, confusing. That’s why I also wrote such an instruction to prevent risks. This is how we show how it is accepted in the company. Disagree at this stage — ok, let’s not waste each other’s time
