Fraudsters and scammers use company names in their schemes. Founder advises candidates on how to avoid getting "hooked" in their job search

CEO and Founder Oleg Shaburakov of the recruitment company A-Play told about an unpleasant situation that happened to him recently. A candidate wrote to him with a question about a vacancy that was offered to him by an alleged «employee of the company,» but this person has no relation to A-Play. Oleg Shaburakov has collected some tips for candidates who are looking for a job so that scammers do not mislead them.

«I immediately wrote to her, and soon the account was deleted,» the A-Play manager recalls the situation with the scammer.

To avoid becoming a victim of scammers

Oleg Shaburakov advises paying attention to the signs of a possible scam:

  • The ad does not specify the name of the company or its activities, and there are no specifics about the vacancy.
  • Job offer in Russian. All environmental companies now communicate only in Ukrainian.
  • They rush you with a decision, creating artificial hype: «big competition», «the place can be taken», «a quick response is needed» — this is not the format of an ecological business.
  • They don’t answer your questions directly and even simple things are hidden behind the word «NDA» or «we’ll answer in the interview.»

What to do if you have doubts about a vacancy

  • Contact HR directly through official communication channels.
  • Check the profile of the person writing to you and the company’s contacts.
  • Never transfer money for «registration», «training» or any other services.

A similar situation has previously been warned about by Natalia Shelepko, a recruiter at Ukrainian outsourcing IT company WebbyLab. She warns about scammers who pretend to be famous companies and write to candidates on their behalf.
