“LinkedIn is not a CV, but a showcase of your value”: Head of Marketing explained why your profile is not working for you
To find a job through LinkedIn, it’s not enough to simply upload a resume. In a new post, Blasto’s Head of Marketing & Communications, Polina Smolyar, named four typical mistakes that prevent a profile from bringing in offers and gave specific advice on how to fix them.
To find a job through LinkedIn, it’s not enough to simply upload a resume. In a new post, Blasto’s Head of Marketing & Communications, Polina Smolyar, named four typical mistakes that prevent a profile from bringing in offers and gave specific advice on how to fix them.
In his LinkedIn post, Smolyar notes: «LinkedIn is not a resume. It’s a showcase of your value. But most profiles look like a list of facts…»
The first problem is the title. According to her, phrases like «Sales manager» or «UX designer» do not convey any benefit to a potential employer. Instead, she advises using the formula: what you do → for whom → with what result.
Examples of effective headlines:
Marketing strategist | Scaling expert brands with clear content & systems
Project manager → From chaos to clarity for growing B2B teams
The second risk area in this case is the «Experience» section. The habit of simply listing responsibilities doesn’t work. Smolyar advises broadcasting impact: action, number, change.
For example:
Launched a content funnel for a SaaS product: +184 leads in the first 30 days
Reduced churn by 17% thanks to a new onboarding process in the EdTech platform
The third component is the «Favorites» block. It is often either empty or contains only a summary. She suggests treating it like a landing page: «Imagine if this was a landing page, what would you show a new visitor?»
This could be a case study, a guide, a link to a portfolio, or a useful post.
The fourth mistake was random skills in the Skills&Endorsements section that don’t work in search. Recommendation: list more than 10 relevant skills, including hard, soft, and industry-specific skills. Also, ask colleagues for recommendations.
Prompts for AI
Separately, the author advises using artificial intelligence to optimize the profile. For example:
«Generate 5 value-driven LinkedIn headlines for [position] that target [audience] in [industry]. Use verbs and results.»
«Rewrite my description of my experience so that it sounds like an impact statement with specific results. The tone is professional, B2B.»
«Generate a list of 15 LinkedIn keywords for someone who does [your job] in [your field], optimized for LinkedIn search.»
«Make this post into a short PDF guide or FAQ that I can upload to Featured»
«Your profile is your filter for the right people,» Smolyar concludes. Her advice is aimed at those who want to make LinkedIn not just a page, but an effective tool for professional growth.
