Meta's CTO suggests employees who don't like changes in the company's internal policy should resign
A copy of Meta’s internal correspondence was leaked online, where Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth spoke sharply to anyone who disagreed with the company’s policies.
A copy of Meta’s internal correspondence was leaked online, where Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth spoke sharply to anyone who disagreed with the company’s policies.
Andrew Bosworth said that Meta employees frustrated with the tech giant’s recent policy changes may resign, TechCrunch writes, citing Business Insider.
AfroTech shared some of the messages from an internal work forum in a 12,000-member group called «Let’s Fix Meta,» citing The Verge.
One of the employees did not agree with the changes that had taken place in the company, in particular, he noted that:
The company is changing policies aimed specifically at the LGBT community.
Meta is shortening its own DEI data-backed applications.
Management uses a far-right podcast to explain the changes instead of reaching out to employees.
This inherently limits freedom of speech.
In response, Meta’s CTO stated that «all of our rules should be liked by everyone, and if not, it’s appropriate to say so,» and also said, «I think you should consider working somewhere else.»
«Blaming leaks for why Mark’s policy decisions can’t even be discussed, much less challenged, is a slap in the face. We’re all here because when we were hired, we were the best candidates for the job,» was the employee’s response.
However, Andrew Bosworth did not change his position. «Unless you mean policy changes, in which case Mark spent quite a bit of time discussing them, it just sounds like you disagree. In that case, you can walk away or disagree and make a commitment,» said Meta’s CTO.
The company did not comment on this situation.
As a reminder, Meta began its 2024 performance evaluation process in December, although most employees will learn their final scores only in the coming weeks. In January, Meta announced a new round of layoffs, covering 5% of employees or 3,600 jobs. On Monday, people began receiving «letters of happiness» from the company. For some of them, this came as a real shock. Some Meta employees, with positive performance ratings, were also cut. People are now afraid that they will not be able to find good jobs when the goal of the layoffs was announced to the whole world — to eliminate those who do not cope with their duties. The likely reason is that managers could not recruit the necessary number of people with low performance, and therefore had to select those with higher indicators.
Among those laid off by Meta due to low productivity were specialists with higher performance: now they are worried about how they will get a new job with such a stigma
