Syrsky, Ukraine and Usyk. What other articles were most read on the Ukrainian Wikipedia in 2024?

The non-governmental organization Wikimedia Ukraine shared statistics on the most visited articles.

About the rating

The source of the rating is an analysis by Mykola Kozlenko based on primary data. The number of views from January 1 to December 31, 2024, including redirects and bots, is taken into account.

«For the first time in a decade and a half, an article about a contemporary person came in first place in terms of visits — the rating was headed by Oleksandr Syrsky,» commented Mykola Kozlenko, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the NGO Wikimedia Ukraine and administrator of the Ukrainian section of Wikipedia.

The most popular articles on the Ukrainian Wikipedia in 2024 were about Oleksandr Syrsky (viewed over 1.1 million times), Ukraine (over 1 million views), and Oleksandr Usyk (viewed over 730,000 times). The article about Valeriy Zaluzhnyi was in fifth place, overtaken by Taras Shevchenko. The article about the CCC and the Joint Venture was in 10th place.

Among the articles about films and TV series, the top three were headed by «List of the 250 highest-rated films on IMDb», «Mavka. A Song of the Woods» and the Harry Potter series. They are immediately followed by an article about the Oscar-winning documentary «20 Days in Mariupol», one of the creators of which was Mstislav Chernov, a Ukrainian director, videographer, photographer and IT specialist by education.

The most viewed article about the defense forces in 2024 was the article about the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The second and third places in this list were taken by articles about the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade (Ukraine) and the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade (Ukraine). The article about the Azov National Guard Brigade rounded out the top five.

As a reminder, the most popular article in 2023 was the article about Ukraine, which was viewed 1.6 million times. In second place was the article «Russian invasion of Ukraine (since 2022)», which received over 1.3 million views. The third was the article about the Ukrainian poet Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko, with 941,930 views.

In addition, in mid-December 2024, dev.ua published an interview with the chief ambassador of the Ukrainian Wikipedia, Anton Protsiuk, about how (in numbers) the Ukrainian-language Wikipedia feels today, what Ukrainians are currently reading the most among its articles, how unethical organizations that seek to build a business on «free knowledge» work, and how one programmer managed to «raise» the Cebuano language of the Philippines thanks to the «Free Encyclopedia.»
