Ukrzaliznytsia promises to refund users previously purchased tickets lost after cyberattack. Here's what you need to do

Ukrzaliznytsia has recovered from a recent cyberattack and now promises that electronic tickets that were previously purchased in the service’s application will be restored to passengers' accounts.

The company intends to return these unused tickets due to the cyberattack to users.

To restore a previously purchased ticket, the user needs to:

  • log in to your account in the Ukrzaliznytsia application;
  • click on the banner on the main page, which will take the user to a separate ticket regeneration page;
  • click the «Download PDF ticket» button and save the restored ticket to your phone.

The company advises all passengers to add their valid email to their accounts in the application and on the Ukrzaliznytsia website, as all new tickets are automatically duplicated to the email address if it was specified in the user’s profile.

In response to a question from user Serhiy Sydorenko in the comments, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that if the ticket was returned in pdf format, but not in the application, that is, there is no return button, and it is far from the railway ticket offices, then you need to fill out a return application and attach a ticket or payment receipt.

The company reminds that you can return a ticket no later than an hour before departure. The application automatically goes to the service if you click on the confirmation of sending the completed form. After checking the data in manual mode, the user will be refunded the funds to the card. The refund period depends on the bank and can take up to 30 banking days for domestic flights and up to 180 days for international flights from the moment of processing.

About the cyberattack on Ukrzaliznytsia

On Sunday morning, March 23, Ukrzaliznytsia reported a failure in the company’s IT system. The company did not immediately indicate the reasons for the failure. In the morning, the chairman of the board of UZ admitted that an unprecedented cyberattack was carried out on the servers and IT resources of Ukrzaliznytsia — targeted, complex and multi-level. Online services are still not working.

Cyber experts also gave their first assessments of a large-scale hacker attack on the servers and IT infrastructure of Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to the company, a backup infrastructure has now been deployed in a secure environment, with all components prepared for immediate restart from backup copies of critical systems.

Ukrzaliznytsia also reminded about how the mechanism for organizing cargo transportation and providing services works. It is noted that after the restoration of cargo services, document processing will again be carried out electronically.

Chairman of the Board of UZ Oleksandr Pertsovsky said that the company is implementing compensation packages for passengers.

On April 2, Ukrzaliznytsia resumed the sale of special reserve tickets through the Army+ application for military personnel.
