The recruiter was outraged by the large number of "office work" vacancies. Did the people of IT-guis support her?

Team Lead Recruitment at DevKit LLC Elvira Sych wrote on social networks that she was «sucked» by «work in the office» vacancies. She referred to Djinni statistics, where 67% of vacancies have a «remote» status, and managers who argue that this way results are better seen and the team communicates.

And what do other IT professionals think about this.

«I’m for you to evaluate the results thanks to the indicators, jira, pm-am, to conduct a comprehensive assessment, and not to worry about which person will sit in your office and whether he will not leave five minutes early,» Elvira emphasizes. And are there specialists who consider working in the office more productive?

In addition, the recruiter adds that an offer to work in an office is normal if there is adequate shelter with food, internet, chairs and tables. «But when it’s a story where there’s just an office, is it more important to you that your employees are alive or have a coffee break with each other? For this, you can also hold an online event,» she believes.

Junior fullstack developer Serhii Okunev confirmed that this is exactly how he works at the moment — in an office where he has no shelter. At the same time, he feels ambiguous. «Especially when rockets arrive 5 kilometers away… And this has already happened several times,» he explains.

But operations manager Kateryna Skichko believes that this is an illusion of control. «A person who does nothing during working hours will find a way to do nothing both at home and in the office,» she emphasizes.

Senior Wordpress Valentyn Horobets for the fact that each employee is evaluated only by the work performed. «And it doesn’t matter where he works at all,» notes the Ukrainian. He gave an example of a classic example of such an interaction to make it clearer:

  • ice and an ordinary programmer,
  • led and the programmer evaluated a certain number of tasks per week,
  • the client agreed them,
  • the programmer stuck to the deadlines,
  • not many bugs,
  • everything is agreed.

«Everyone is in a plus, let him work where and when it’s convenient for him,» Valentin believes. According to him, depending on the profession and responsibilities, there may be slightly different requirements, for example, not to miss important meetings, to write back to the client correctly, etc.

In addition, QA Automation Engineer Vladyslav Berezovsky added that there is also a significant problem with the employment of specialists if their location is not Lviv or Kyiv on LinkedIn, as dangerous cities.

«It will be strange for them to close their offices again in a couple of months due to new virus epidemics. And in Ukraine, even getting to the office is already a task,» emphasizes business analyst Anton Levandovskyi .

But some professionals appreciate the conveniences that an office can provide. «I personally would sell my soul to the devil for a coffee machine with good coffee,» writes Business Data Analyst Yuriy Chernyaev .

In general, IT specialists hope that the market will solve the situation with work in the office. This is the opinion of Dmytro Khandzhanov, Frontend Developer at MOJAM, in particular. «Strong candidates will choose more comfortable conditions for themselves, and employers with a desire to „see people on a chair in the office“ will have to either compensate for this inconvenience through: higher salary, more benefits, reduced working hours, etc., or be satisfied with those candidates who could not find a job in more comfortable conditions,» he explains.

In addition, Dmytro adds that this will slow down the process of finding candidates. " There are not so many Haitians left in Ukraine, it seems that most of them have already left. Some because of the war, some because of busification. And now, being limited to the office, this small list is reduced tenfold. And from that already very small list of those who are suitable for the location, you need to choose the one who has armor (or likes to take risks) and is suitable for the rocks. And we also need to somehow prove to him that returning to the office is what he wants,» the developer writes.

Of course, the people of Aitiv rightly note that not everyone, working at home, goes to the shelter in times of alarm. However, Elvira argues that everyone is responsible for their own life at home.

In addition, as noted by IT specialists, not all offices are properly equipped for comfortable work in modern realities. «I went to an interview in the summer, where I had to be in the office. And when I asked how light/internet is provided during the blackout, I was told that there was no way yet, and that there was no bomb shelter. And then I think — at home there are also optics, and an inverter with a battery, and a shelter under the side, and a co-working space with Starlink,» recalls business analyst Daria Startseva.
