“We were using AI before it became mainstream.” What AI tools do startups from Craft Lab, knopka, Caring24, Getpin and Jetbeep use and what are they tasked with doing?
The other day, during a podcast with Joe Rogan, Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta has already started replacing middleware developers with AI, and that code for the company’s products will be written by artificial intelligence engineers. Back in December, dev.ua already found out whether AI is replacing employees and analyzed what is known about the dismissal of technical specialists, who are being replaced by AI tools.
Of course, there are some layoffs, but it is already clear that for the most part, instead of being afraid of artificial intelligence, IT specialists are friends with it. And startups who are directly involved in the development and creation of technological innovations are no exception. Representatives of startup businesses told dev.ua what tasks they delegate to ChatGPT or other AI, what tools they use and what they base their choice on.

Craft Lab: «We were using AI before it became mainstream»
Due to product orientation, as Mykola Sulima, co-founder of the maker laboratory Craft Lab, said, startups constantly use various software to automate processes.

In particular, according to him, the development of mechanical and electronic parts of prototypes is always carried out in the fusion360 program — this is a CAD program, in which a powerful technology of generative design or generative design based on AI was implemented back in 2019. The general idea is that the developer specifies the requirements for the future mechanical object: attachment points, loads that must be withstood, size restrictions, etc., and the algorithm creates a 3D model automatically, relying on «natural growth processes.»

An important feature is the ability to create a model taking into account the technology that the developer plans to use in further production.
Today, generative design in fusion360 has developed to the point where it has become accessible in a simplified form to every user: the developer simply selects the surfaces between which to create a model and sets constraints, and AI does the rest.

«This allows you to get an acceptable result in a couple of mouse clicks and two minutes of time. Such development is simply amazing!» — notes Mykola Sulima.

knopka: CEO never used it, but the development team loves it
Ivan Osadchy, a medical psychologist and CEO of the startup knopka, which develops a medical care automation system for medical personnel, does not use artificial intelligence at all and has not used it before.

The startuper says that he doesn’t see any advantages yet in searching for information using AI compared to how he’s used to searching for it. And if he were considering using AI tools, he’d be more inclined to use AI as an assistant to create something. But Ivan doesn’t have any specific plans for that yet.

However, more than half a year ago, knopka provided access to ChatGPT for the entire team and encourages them to use and experiment with it. The startup’s IT development manager, Valentyn Zavertany, reported that currently 80% of employees use generative intelligence features in one way or another. The startup’s specialists use ChatGPT in various areas of work, in particular.
General inquiries:
Google replacement — quick answers to questions without the need to search independently. Ability to ask a complex question.
Development team:
Code generation — from simple scripts to changing/adding to existing code based on a request.
Research — assistance in analyzing complex technical or programmatic issues.
Data analysis — simplifying work with large amounts of information, creating tools for analytics or performing part of routine work, generating graphs.
Personal management cases head of software development:
Documentation generation and analysis.
Quick consultations on issues where I have a weak level of expertise, such as legal or financial matters.
Writing summaries or structuring a message from voice.
Translation from different languages.
Writing copy texts.
«I brainstorm together when I want to come up with new features or encounter a technical challenge. It is very useful that the model keeps the entire context of the startup’s work in memory and forms answers and comments on the topic,» adds Valentyn Zavertany.
What you should pay attention to:
LLM can often invent facts and events. Therefore, Valentin avoids relying on answers without verification, and if he uses an argument from the model in a discussion, he clarifies its origin.
Into the bargain:
Valentin mentioned an «extra joke» related to ChatGPT that is worth paying attention to, in particular:
You can ask a bot an incredibly specific question, and get an answer similar to a post from a hypothetical average Reddit/Stackoverflow etc user, and then engage in a debate.
«For example, just yesterday I had a discussion with developers and an architect, and I mentioned critical system vulnerabilities and how to avoid them. ChatGPT came in handy for me to consider together and less biased use cases of the vulnerability of the first „Death Star“ from „Star Wars“ and provided many other examples from real life. This helped to easily direct my discussion in an interesting and necessary direction,» said the head of IT development at the startup.

Caring24: uses ChatGPT and Claude AI
Gosha Akimov, founder of the startup Caring24, an innovative mental health app designed to support caregivers and relatives of cancer patients, which was transformed from the Scally service, said that the startup team and he personally use AI tools, in particular ChatGPT and Claude AI.

In particular, artificial intelligence in «Turbota24» helps with:
The first validation of hypotheses. In terms of finding alternatives to products or features. «After all, if we came up with something, then maybe someone else has already created it,» Gosha Akimov is sure.
Prototyping. Startups have already tested over 10 features on prompts alone.
Copywriting. Drafts of texts and scripts for videos. As an analogue of brainstorming
Research on target audiences and markets in other countries.

Audio exercise generation (fliki.ai voiceover) is something that is integrated directly into the product.
Getpin: the main thing is regularity
The startup Getpin, which helps businesses master their online presence on maps and cartographic services using ready-made automated solutions, emphasizes the importance of implementing technological solutions to perform everyday tasks and increase efficiency within the company, especially given limited resources (startups' rough days). In this regard, as CEO and founder of Getpin Volodymyr Leshchenko said, AI is used regularly in the startup’s work.

Here are the artificial intelligence (AI)-based services he says are being used:
ChatGPT — we have already talked about resource limitations, so this AI helps to partially close certain functions in a startup and expertise that is lacking. A wide range of requests: rough generation of hypotheses and ideas, marketing assistant for basic SEO tasks, ideas for copywriting, processing large data sets, tables, text translation, their localization. Also, it helps to shorten the text for certain needs (for example, applications). «But you should remember about the confidentiality of information and sensitive data. Let’s not forget,» adds Volodymyr Leshchenko.
Gemini with deep research — research on a given topic with a prepared report and links to the resources used. Partially replaces a researcher in the company.
Notion helps keep your knowledge base under control, as well as work with spreadsheets and report generation on campaign performance. «We connected Notion with Pipedrive to automatically generate dashboards,» explained Getpin CEO.
Grammarly and Deepl — the startup sells and serves customers in different markets, often in the local language. To make emails sound polite and unambiguous, Getpin’s specialists do double translations and use AI suggestions to quickly make the text more professional and understandable.
Noty.ai — Meeting AI Assistant getting work done — is used to optimize processes — for basic meeting results. «Since Getpin is a Ukrainian startup, most of the meetings are held in Ukrainian, and not all services work effectively with the native language, Noty.ai — Meeting AI Assistant getting work done — is one of them,» notes Volodymyr Leshchenko.
Merlin — makes a good summary of various videos when there is no time to listen to podcasts or interviews. As an innovative startup, it is important to be on trend.
QuillBot — helps you work with texts. The function of paraphrasing text in different styles: creative, formal, simple, academic, etc., often helps when writing letters, posts, texts. There is also an AI Detector and a plagiarism checker.
«Using the technological services above and optimizing time, we daily monitor the evolution of AI and its adaptation in various tools, analyze what can be useful for our clients and improve the user experience of the Getpin platform,» says the CEO of Getpin.
Jetbeep: texts and documents
Valery Chekalkin, co-founder of Jetbeep, said he uses ChatGPT mainly to:
create legal and paralegal documents (e.g. memoranda of intent),
create emails,
write posts on Linkedin,
structure information (for example, a series of strategic sessions are currently taking place for a year, then we give the results to AI).

For presentations and commercial proposals, Valeriy intends to use an AI tool that makes PDF documents beautifully. «But we haven’t gotten around to it yet,» he adds.

Як нейромережі бачать вільну та незалежну Україну? Тест dev.ua
