S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will compete for the title of "game of the year" on Steam with the Russian Space Marine 2 and the Chinese Black Myth: Wukong

Steam has announced the shortlist of nominees for the 2024 Steam Awards, which was chosen based on player votes. Ukrainian game STALKER 2 has made it to the list of finalists for the main award «Game of the Year», where it will compete with:

• action game Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 from the Russian-based studio Saber Interactive;
• action-RPG Black Myth: Wukong from the Chinese studio Game Science;
• chart-topping indie hit Balatro from solo developer LocalThunk;
• cooperative action game Helldivers 2 from Arrowhead Game studio.

STALKER 2 will be a tough one to beat, given the popularity of Black Myth: Wukong in China, which helped it win the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024, according to the players' choice. Instead, the main GotY award went to the platformer Astrobot.

Space Marine 2 also has a good chance of winning the title of «Game of the Year». It is a sequel to the game from Relic Entertainment, and its action takes place in the popular Warhammer 40,000 universe from the British Games Workshop, which has a large fan base. The second part was made by Saber Interactive, and in the credits of the game you can see a lot of Russian names.

In contrast, STALKER 2, although it was quite warmly received by players, was not in the best technical condition at the time of release and received mediocre reviews from critics. The developers have already released several patches that fixed hundreds of bugs and raised the game’s rating to 84% positive reviews from over 70,000 reviews, but there are still plenty of problems.

If STALKER 2 fails to win the title of «Game of the Year», it will have a chance to be recognized for «Most Innovative Gameplay» and «Luxurious Story». In the first nomination, the Ukrainian game will compete with Helldivers 2, Balatro, as well as Satisfactory and Liar’s Bar. In the second, it will face Ghost of Tsushima, Black Myth: Wukong, Mouthwashing and FINAL FANTASY XVI.

Voting for the winners will begin tomorrow, December 19, after 8:00 PM Kyiv time, and will last until December 31. You can vote for STALKER 2 on this page.
