Ukraine's Digital Sovereignty: How We Risk Becoming a Digital Colony — and What to Do About It
In an era of war and technological struggle, data control is not just a matter of security, but a matter of state survival. Ukraine is already paying millions of dollars for its dependence on foreign clouds, and the lack of its own standards and solutions in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence could put the country on the brink of digital colonization.

Zuckerberg vs. Altman: How Meta is shaking up OpenAI's position in the artificial intelligence market
A few years ago, Sam Altman admired Mark Zuckerberg's managerial style in hiring employees, but now he has become a victim of Meta's predatory strategy. At the heart of this Silicon Valley technological drama are multimillion-dollar contracts, the fight for talent, lawsuits and ambitions to build a superintelligence. dev.ua tells how Meta is trying by all available means (including not entirely legal ones) to close the gap with OpenAI.

Marketing has gone through a huge evolutionary path over the millennia of its existence — from the simplest forms of communication to modern high-tech ecosystems. Along with the industry, the working tools of specialists have also transformed. The key motivation for this development has always been the desire for maximum efficiency of results. At the same time, the need to reduce the time for performing routine operations is growing — in conditions of fierce competition and a large volume of tasks, marketers simply cannot afford to manually perform all processes.

“I’m a little worried that the server will hold up and that AWS won’t ruin me.” How a Ukrainian gamer with IT experience created a service for tracking gaming statistics GRAVK
Recently, a Ukrainian gaming enthusiast with the nickname N1kk0 introduced the GRAVK service, which allows gamers to manage their game library, track statistics, and create lists. dev.ua talked to the project developer and found out how tired he was of IT, but later found a «second wind», how much the number of registrations for the release exceeded his expectations, and why a dog appeared in the GRAVK logo.

"Work looks pretty good compared to life, which has turned into a dull gi*no." Experience and advice from IT professionals and experts on how to prevent, prevent and recover from burnout
Posts about situations of IT burnout continue to spread on social networks. And such stories are not isolated. Many questions arise in this regard, in particular: what are the causes of this burnout, how popular is this problem really now and how is it solved in IT companies? And also how to prevent burnout? How to diagnose a similar condition in yourself before the body enters a «steep peak» and what to do to get out of it? dev.ua dealt with all this with IT workers who have gone through it, managers and psychologists.

Work on a special legal regime for Defence City arms manufacturers is in full swing. Tax cuts, a special register of manufacturers, decriminalization of breach of contract, special conditions for business relocation, and several other regulatory nuances have already been announced by parliamentarians, who have prepared as many as four bills for consideration. dev.ua asked weapons manufacturers whether they are ready to join the new regime. We remind you that they want to ban residents of Diya.City from entering Defence City.

There's nothing to breathe. How to determine the level of air pollution and what to do when the city is drowning in smoke after shelling
Kyiv residents are once again experiencing air quality problems in the Ukrainian capital: visibility has significantly deteriorated, a strong smell of smoke has appeared in certain areas, and breathing has become difficult. The reason for this phenomenon is another Russian shelling, which has caused numerous fires in various areas of the capital and in some places has led to pollution levels exceeding the norm by dozens of times. We remind you of what you need to know about air quality and what useful tools are available for monitoring it.

«Fight with robots, not with people» is one of the slogans of the Technological Forces of Ukraine, an association of Ukrainian gunsmiths that is approaching its second anniversary and has grown from its initial six members to several dozen members. The TSU mainly includes Ukrainian manufacturers of drones and electronic warfare systems, which are currently the main weapons of this war. How close the association has come to this and its other slogans in reality, who can get into it and who is denied, how close Ukraine is to opening up arms exports and whether society will understand this, and whether Ukraine should fight for arms export markets with Russia, dev.ua spoke with the executive director of the TSU, Kateryna Mykhalko. More on these and other questions below.

Component Architecture in WordPress: How We Increased Flexibility and Accelerated Development
WordPress development has traditionally been built around a monolithic architecture: a single theme with a multitude of templates, features, styles, and scripts tightly woven together. This approach works well for most sites, but when a site becomes complex and needs to remain fast and scalable, it becomes a serious limitation. In this article, I’ll talk about what component architecture is, what it’s used for, its advantages and disadvantages, and how it doubled a team’s efficiency.

Remote work for IT professionals: a chance for higher productivity or constant overtime and a career plateau? Conclusions and advice from HR
In a world where office walls have become a metaphor rather than a physical reality, remote work has transformed the IT landscape. It has opened the door to flexibility and freedom for thousands of professionals. But is this «new normal» really the golden ticket to higher productivity and a harmonious life, or does it hide pitfalls in the form of constant overtime and the threat of career plateaus? Today, it is difficult to find a company in IT that does not at least partially support hybrid or fully remote work. HR specialists see this transformation every day — both from the employee’s and the company’s point of view. However, often due to the availability of an alternative, businesses face the loss of a candidate: IT professionals who are used to working from home often refuse to consider an office or hybrid work format. Therefore, Ukrainian IT specialists are increasingly choosing solitude in their own apartment or a country life away from civilization. However, remote work has its pros and cons. dev.ua spoke with Oksana Petrenko, CHRO at SharksCode, about the advantages and disadvantages of remote work for IT professionals. Here are the main conclusions from the conversation.

Do you still have plans for the next few years? Forget it!
The world is changing much faster than your imagination can prepare for it. And the main driver of change is artificial intelligence. I’ll start from afar. I am an active user of AI models. I constantly use about 10 models, in my portfolio there are already under 30. The average number of requests to different models per day reaches hundreds. The average monthly amount for paid AI models reaches $500. And as an active user, I am amazed by the dynamics of AI model development and the speed and depth of expanding AI capabilities. I became curious about how the current dynamics would change the demand for chips and energy consumption while maintaining the current dynamics of AI development. The result amazed me.

Ukrainian freelancers and agencies are being blocked on the Upwork platform. This is not just a loss of accounts, but also a source of income, which for many IT professionals is the only one. More than 100 cases are already known, including accounts with an income of $300,000. According to Kyrylo Kozak, an entrepreneur and former Upwork community manager in Ukraine, who is working on unblocking Ukrainian accounts and is cooperating with the Ministry of Digital Affairs on this issue, the platform has responded to his request and will begin unblocking. He also analyzed the blocking to identify key issues and the cities where IT users were most often banned. He also provided some tips on how to avoid this if you work during airstrikes and live within the range of electronic warfare.

Soham Parekh, a 24-year-old Indian programmer, worked full-time at seven different American IT and AI companies in Silicon Valley for at least three years straight. He worked remotely from India all the time, so no one noticed that Parekh was receiving pay from multiple employers at once. The mega-worker was exposed after a post in X by Suhail Doshi, CEO of AI startup Playground AI. «There’s one guy who works in 3-4 startups at the same time,» he wrote, not yet knowing that in reality the number of companies the IT guy worked with was almost twice as many. We tell the story of a specialist who managed to hold an incredible number of positions at once.

How crypto companies should open an account in 2025: no longer about location, but about structure
A few years ago, opening an account for a crypto company in Europe was a matter of a few days. In 2021–2022, it was enough to register a company in a jurisdiction with a basic VASP registry — for example, in Lithuania or Poland — and choose one of the crypto-friendly payment institutions. Most financial companies limited themselves to a formal verification of registration documents, business model and beneficiary data. Conditionally — «registered the company and opened an account.» This practice was typical for the stage of rapid growth of the Web3 industry.

Operationally, the park is developing at the expense of its own revenues: as of December 2024, its income reached UAH 3 million. This year, an increase in income by 50% is expected. The park invests all the money earned in the development of new projects. The Science Park received significant support from the investment company BGV Group Management of Gennady Butkevych, which provided equipment for laboratories worth over 100,000 euros. Currently, the park team is creating projects for universities, business, and sports, including an online management platform for universities, an interactive sports simulator, application development, 3D printer production, and more.
