FrontEnd developer Denys Tkachenko recently received unexpected feedback on a test assignment that was hotly discussed on LinkedIn. It turned out that a test that was done too well can make an employer doubt whether it was really done by a human, and not by an AI.

Upwork Key Trends and Analytics 2024
I recently came across some interesting Upwork 2024 analytics and decided to share my observations. The study analyzed over 5 million projects posted on Upwork to identify current market trends, find out which projects offer the highest pay, and which niches are the easiest to fill. If you already have an agency on Upwork or are thinking about starting one, this guide might be helpful on your journey.

"Zuckerberg went off the rails. You complain about it, but you're not going anywhere." Ukrainian developer created the social network Vmist with the money he was saving for an apartment. Prospects for the "Ukrainian Reddit"
Paradoxically, information about the emergence of a new Ukrainian social network sometimes not only becomes a sensation, but also gets lost in the information noise. There are several reasons for this: considering that the social network market is very globalized, and its players have already become a kind of «digital empires», no one believes that a new competitor, no matter what technological advantages it may have, will actually be able not only to bite off a «piece of the pie», but even to collect crumbs from the table. Especially if there is no group of investors from the Forbes list behind it. In addition, we have already had more than one attempt to «bring out» one or another Ukrainian social network to the public, but all of them either continue to exist as very local projects with a limited audience, or eventually ceased their activities. However, this does not scare the developers of the Ukrainian social network Vmist, who have already made their product publicly available and continue to regularly improve it. dev.ua talked to them to understand the purpose, prospects of their product and plans, and most importantly, to answer the question of why they are doing this, although, it would seem, the realities and statistics are against them.

How to make gambling safe: the experience of Southern Europe
Creating a safe gaming environment is one of the main tasks of a business that preaches the principles of responsible gaming. That is why we support the work of analysts at the Center for Responsible Gaming, who are preparing a study of international experience in combating gaming addiction. In fact, one of the Center’s latest studies on the experience of Southern European countries discusses the practices of Spain, Greece, and Italy. Of course, these countries have a lot to learn — both in the context of ensuring responsible gaming and player safety. And first of all — in the implementation of the latest technologies in these areas.

IT professionals often complain that with the changing market situation, the level of remuneration for IT specialists has significantly decreased. And, in order to get an offer, you need to give up your salary expectations. dev.ua asked HR specialists from leading companies whether the salary situation is really different today than it was a few years ago, and whether it is worth expecting an increase in salaries in the industry.

Arseny Hofman, a native of Aitutaki with 18 years of experience, created a platform for matching people based on interests. Here, people are looking for companions for going to the movies, communicating in English, and even gossiping. «Adults usually have a hard time finding friends. Many people find it difficult to write to/approach someone. But that person won’t be interested? You don’t want to waste that person’s time, and yours too, on communication that no one needs. That’s why I created the hvirtka website. The point is that you see what specific people want. And the fact that they registered on hvirtka automatically means that they are interested in communicating with other people and potentially making friends,» wrote Arseniy Hofman, a developer with 18 years of experience, on LinkedIn. Together with his partner, lawyer Alex Snyadanko, Arseniy created a service where you can find a friend or companion for all occasions. dev.ua talked to Arseniy and found out many interesting details of the project. Next is Arseniy’s direct speech.

The modern dating culture has changed significantly, but it still has its own "IT" nuances. Why clickbait is extremely effective on YouTube
Ten years ago, YouTube worked very differently. Subscribers were the main thing, because most views came from the subscription feed. Videos usually went viral due to attention on other platforms — Reddit or Facebook, not through YouTube’s algorithm. The system was like a podcast app: you only saw content from channels you were subscribed to. As the video gained popularity and people subscribed to the channel, the creator’s next video would receive many views from subscribers. YouTube would notice this and show the video to even more people, creating positive feedback.

"Now I appreciate the opportunity to simply have a home. Living in a "temporary" mode is very exhausting." Confession of a designer who, despite the opportunity to live abroad, decided to return to Ukraine during the war
dev.ua continues to tell the stories of Ukrainians who, despite the opportunity to remain peacefully abroad, returned home and live in Ukraine. Today’s story is from Asset/Graphic Designer Ciklum Olena Degtyareva, who lived in Poland for two years and decided to return to Ukrainian Odessa despite the fact that the city is suffering from enemy attacks. Next is a direct speech from a specialist.

Back in early April, the National Bank announced that it would not extend the limit of UAH 150,000 per month for card-to-card transfers by individuals. But instead, it announced that it had developed a concept for a register of persons who require enhanced control of payment transactions. This is the so-called «drop register,» which the regulator’s leadership has been talking about since last year. Its implementation requires the Verkhovna Rada to adopt a corresponding bill.

“We don’t ‘make dumplings’ — our work doesn’t require physical presence or micromanagement.” Do Ukrainian IT employers require IT professionals to return to the office?
Ukrainian IT professionals often refuse to cooperate with companies that require full presence in the office or a hybrid work format. It is understandable — during the war and Covid, the habit of working from home, without wasting time on the road, has become a familiar part of life. And today’s sleepless attacks due to enemy attacks and the possibility of being forcibly conscripted into the army at any moment while traveling to work do not contribute to specialists returning to the offices. Meanwhile, international tech giants have long been restoring the practice of working from offices, and those who do not agree to work away from home are simply fired. dev.ua asked top Ukrainian IT employers whether they require the presence of specialists in the office and in what format they currently offer cooperation to new employees.

"No nervous breakdowns" in the sales department: how the Gestalt approach helps build healthy communication
In modern business, we increasingly talk about numbers, efficiency and results. But behind every meeting, plan or report there are people - with their feelings, experiences and resources. The Gestalt approach, which was born in therapy, today opens up new horizons for management - especially in such dynamic teams as sales departments. This is where pace, goals and competition can both motivate and exhaust. I say this from my own experience, because I have been working in sales for over 15 years, 9 of which I have held management positions at Hillel IT School, and for over 7 years I have been studying at the Kyiv Gestalt University as a Gestalt therapist. And I sincerely see this as an effective tool for building contact in a team, which brings not only productive results in work, but also a healthy atmosphere in the team.
