Ukrainian developer Volodymyr Kovalchuk has been developing the application "Alarm Map of Ukraine. Widget" for four years, which allows you to learn about air threats in real time. Today, the application allows you to add an alarm map to your home screen as a widget, choose a design style (map colors, region and district boundaries, appearance of different alarm states) and monitor the situation without unnecessary actions — including a version for Apple Watch, where you can view the map directly on your watch. The application is available on the App Store and Google Play . The developer told dev.ua the story of the project, from the first version made a week ago at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, to the modern ecosystem with support for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

From domain registrar to the largest hosting company in Ukraine: the story of MiroHost, which is currently out of business due to the destruction of the data center in Kyiv by the Russians
On September 23, 2026, a Russian attack on Kyiv destroyed a data center that housed the facilities of one of Ukraine’s largest hosting providers — MiroHost. The founder of the company and head of the Internet Invest holding, Oleksandr Olshansky, told dev.ua that there are no restoration deadlines yet, and only the Ukrainian location was affected: about 90–95% of MiroHost clients are served abroad, and services are working normally for them. We tell you how a company that started as a side project of a domain name registrar grew into one of the largest hosting providers in the country over 20+ years.

Russian occupation forces have changed the tactics of attacks on Ukraine’s digital infrastructure. While previously the targets were mainly energy facilities, in recent weeks the enemy has been purposefully destroying key communication nodes and data centers (data processing centers). Anatoly Frolenkov, a consultant in the telecom, IT and media market, told dev.ua about the prerequisites, consequences of the latest attacks and the resilience of the Ukrainian network segment. He also provided advice on how ordinary users and businesses can minimize risks.

Billions of data points and dozens of models: how Data Science works at Philip Morris Ukraine

Billions of data points and dozens of models: how Data Science works at Philip Morris Ukraine
The architecture of the labor market is changing: the line between classic IT and other fields is becoming less and less visible. In 2026, the largest categories of vacancies in the Ukrainian IT market will be analytics, marketing, HR, Sales and QA, while AI/ML, Data Science and Data Engineering remain among the areas with the highest level of employment of specialists. At the same time, 30% of Ukrainian IT professionals would be ready to change their field if they were offered better conditions. So working with big data today does not necessarily mean a classic IT career. Analytics, machine learning, and AI are increasingly penetrating marketing, manufacturing, customer experience, and business operations. According to DOU, AI/ML/DS/Data Engineering specialists in 2026 are among the groups to whom recruiters write most often: 65% of Ukrainian specialists in these areas receive such messages several times a month. In the public mind, Philip Morris is a conservative tobacco giant with paper packs, distribution trucks, and classic marketing from the last century. But behind the corporate facade, the company has long lived by the laws of the technology business: they work with billions of data points, build ML models, and gradually integrate generative AI into business processes. All product and marketing hypotheses at Philip Morris are based on a foundation maintained by a team led by Dmitry Sitenko, senior manager of customer experience management. In a partner article, he told dev.ua how data shapes the company’s agenda and helps solve customer pain points.
