A team of 40 engineers can be a large project for a customer and one of dozens of accounts for a global IT vendor. When something goes wrong, the difference becomes noticeable: the response goes through several levels of approval, the search for the right specialist is delayed, and the person capable of making the decision has almost no contact with the customer.

While part of the global IT market is debating whether to return people to offices en masse, in Ukraine this issue has long been resolved — just not in the way it seems at first glance. Here, the format of work is determined not by corporate fashion, but by simpler and more difficult logic: will a person get to work in the morning if there was shelling at night, is there a place to hide during an alarm, and will the office withstand another blackout. dev.ua spoke with IT companies in Ukraine about how they deal with this issue today. And while each has its own wording, the approach at Ciklum, Levi9, EPAM, ZONE3000, SoftServe, and Railsware turned out to be surprisingly common: no hard and fast rules, but instead trust in the team and infrastructure in case things don’t go according to plan.
